The Coconut Hybridization Program emerged as a response to the challenge faced in the agriculture sector in the early 1980s with the
lethal yellowing diseased that wipe  out all the coconut industry in Belize. Two technicians were sent for training to Jamaica with the aim
of ensuring a sustainable supply of planting material for farmers interested in enhancing their livelihood and food security, the Coconut Hybridization Program, under the Ministry of
Agriculture, provides technical assistance and support to farmers for a resilient coconut industry.
